"If a stick is floating down a river and gets stuck, it doesn’t need years of therapy. It just needs a little nudge and then it will get back into the flow of the river."
― Michael Neill
Counseling
Feeling Stuck
When I read that quote at the top of this page, it hit me — because I know what it’s like to feel stuck.
I know what it’s like to be stuck.
And maybe you do too.
For me, it was being stuck in depression, sadness, and a kind of low-grade melancholy for so many years.
For you, it might be anxiety, worry, or a mind that won’t turn off.
For others, it’s whatever keeps them from being — or getting back into — the flow of life.
You wonder,
What’s wrong with me?
Why can’t I get over this?
What am I missing?
And it can feel even worse because you know and love Jesus — you really do — but your faith doesn’t seem to be “working.”
Trying Hard
I know what it’s like to try to fix myself.
And maybe you do too.
For years, I was in therapy, on medication, doing individual and group counseling, and trying every self-help tip, tool, or technique I could find — anything to try to get out of my “funk.”
Maybe you’ve been on that journey too.
Trying so hard to feel better.
To feel happy.
To feel less anxious.
And fearing that maybe you never will.
Constantly searching for the “key” — something that might finally unlock the door to feeling better:
— unending therapy
— constant self-help
— extra effort
— more prayer
And yet… nothing seems to actually work.
You start to wonder,
Will it ever change?
Will I ever change?
Maybe it will never change…
You feel hopeless.
You feel tired.
You feel like you’re somehow failing as a Christian.
And you wonder if anything will ever really work — because so far, nothing has.
A Little Nudge
Then you come across a quote like that and you’re like, “Right… what?”
A mix of disbelief — and a little hope — about this idea of a small “nudge,” whatever that might be.
What is it?
Where do I find it?
How could that even be possible?
For me, that nudge eventually came — but only after years and years of therapy, analysis, and effort before I finally began to feel better.
But if I knew then what I know now, it wouldn’t have taken me nearly as long.
Into the Flow
I also know what it’s like to long for what you don’t seem to have —
and maybe you do too.
The desire to feel happy again.
To feel joy again.
To have that peace that “passes understanding.”
That sounds good… I want that.
You too?
It sounds beautiful… and often out of reach.
You just want to feel good again — to stop missing your life because you feel ‘off.’
Hope
I just want to give you a little hope.
Not from ego or anything like that…
just from someone who’s been there,
struggled for years,
and finally found something true about the way we’re made on the inside.
I wish I had known this long ago.
It would have saved me so much time, money, and life.
I wouldn’t have had to suffer so much or for so long.
But my journey — all of it — shaped me
and led me to what I now understand about true mental health.
I’m not making promises,
but if you’re open and willing,
I’d love — and be honored —
to share with you what I’ve found.
It really can make a difference.
Christian Counseling That's Different
This isn’t your typical therapy.
It’s something gentler, deeper — and honestly, far more hopeful.
It’s not about fixing what’s broken on the surface, but about rediscovering what God designed within you.
It’s not about doing more or trying harder.
It’s about seeing — waking up to your God-designed innate mental health and how it actually works.
The truth is, most of us were simply never taught this.
I didn’t know.
And chances are, no one ever explained it to you either.
It’s a spiritual answer that brings God and soul back into psychology.
Through this approach, you begin to see that…
nothing is wrong with you,
you’re not broken, and
nothing needs to be fixed.
(I know — that’s not what you usually hear in counseling, but it’s the truth.)
How This Counseling Helps
Most people who reach out to me are Christians who feel anxious, depressed, discouraged, or stuck.
They’ve often tried therapy, self-help strategies, and trying harder — spiritually and emotionally — and still feel weighed down or disconnected from peace and joy.
My work is not long-term, effort-heavy therapy.
I help people experience relief and change through insight and understanding — seeing something true about how the mind works and how God has designed us on the inside.
As insight grows, anxiety loosens.
Depression lifts.
Hope returns.
People don’t change because they work harder.
They change because something finally makes sense.
Over time, many find themselves living with more peace, clarity, and freedom — more often than before.
Individual Counseling
I’m glad to meet for individual counseling — especially when something is stirring, confusing, or weighing on you right now.
Sometimes a few conversations are enough to bring clarity, relief, or a new understanding and a clearer sense of direction. And sometimes, all it takes is one clear insight — one new thought — for things to begin to change.
From Misery to Bliss — A 12-Week Counseling Journey
Sometimes people want more than a few conversations.
That’s where From Misery to Bliss comes in — a 12-week counseling journey for those who want a steady, intentional process rather than one-off sessions.
We meet regularly over those twelve weeks, allowing insight, faith, and understanding to reshape how you experience your life from the inside out.
This work isn’t about fixing what’s broken, but about rediscovering the steadiness and freedom that were there all along.
This journey is for people who sense they’re ready to invest in themselves — not through effort or techniques, but through deeper understanding and insight.
In my experience, a steady, intentional process like this creates the most space for insight and lasting change.
If that sounds like what you’re looking for, we can talk together about next steps.
My Hope for You
My hope?
That through little nudges — meaningful conversations, learning together, and fresh insight — you can begin to get back into the flow of life again.
To get unstuck from the depression, anxiety, or whatever it is
that’s been keeping you from rowing your boat
(living your life)
gently down the stream…
merrily, gratefully, and lightly.
FAQ
Here are some simple answers to the questions people often ask.
This is a gentle, spiritually grounded, psychologically wise form of counseling for Christians who feel anxious, depressed, discouraged, or stuck.
It’s not about fixing what’s broken or managing symptoms on the surface.
It’s about understanding how God designed the mind and soul to work together — and allowing clarity, peace, and freedom to re-emerge naturally.
Many people who come to me have already tried therapy, self-help strategies, or trying harder — spiritually and emotionally — and still sense that something essential is missing.
Not really.
You don’t have to endlessly retell your story.
You don’t have to analyze every thought or feeling.
You don’t have to work harder to get better.
Sessions are conversational, directive, and often lighter than people expect — with more clarity and insight, and far less emotional strain.
Most people are surprised by how relieving this feels.
No.
If trauma or past experiences are part of your story, we can gently address what’s needed — but we don’t do so by reliving or re-experiencing painful memories.
This work looks toward freedom, not repetition — toward release, not re-immersion.
Often, as understanding deepens, what once felt overwhelming begins to loosen on its own.
Most people who reach out are not looking for another strategy — they’re looking for something that finally makes sense.
I don’t promise miracles.
But again and again, when people begin to understand how God designed their minds to work, change often follows — sometimes gently, sometimes surprisingly — from the inside out.
As insight grows, anxiety loosens.
Depression lifts.
Hope returns.
People don’t change because they work harder.
They change because something finally becomes clear.
This work is typically short-term and insight-based.
Some people choose to meet for just a few conversations.
Others intentionally choose a longer, more focused time for support and clarity.
My goal isn’t to keep you in counseling, but to help you rediscover a steadier, freer way of living — one you can carry forward on your own.
Not in the way people usually fear.
You don’t need to brace yourself emotionally.
You don’t need to push through pain to heal.
You don’t need to try harder.
Your role is simply openness and willingness.
My role is to guide the process with care and skill.
This work tends to resonate with people who:
are tired of trying harder
sense that effort alone hasn’t helped
are open to something simpler than what they’ve been doing
feel that something important may be missing
want a faith-centered approach that also makes psychological sense
You don’t need to have everything figured out.
You don’t need certainty before you begin.
Just a little openness — and a willingness to see something new.
The fact that you’re here reading this may already be a sign that something in you is open.
This approach may not be the best match for someone who is:
looking primarily for techniques, homework, or step-by-step programs
wanting years of traditional weekly talk therapy
focused mainly on managing symptoms
not open to exploring a deeper understanding of inner life
This work tends to resonate with people who feel even a small openness — a willingness to see differently and let understanding do the work.
Individual counseling sessions are $150 per session.
This work is usually short-term and insight-based.
My goal is not to keep you in counseling, but to help you get your life back and live from a steadier, freer place.
