"If a stick is floating down a river and gets stuck, it doesn’t need years of therapy. It just needs a little nudge and then it will get back into the flow of the river."
― Michael Neill
When I read that quote at the top of this page, it hit me — because I know what it’s like to feel stuck.
I know what it’s like to be stuck.
And maybe you do too.
For me, it was being stuck in depression, sadness, and a kind of low-grade melancholy for so many years.
For you, it might be anxiety, worry, or a mind that won’t turn off.
For others, it’s whatever keeps them from being — or getting back into — the flow of life.
You wonder,
What’s wrong with me?
Why can’t I get over this?
What am I missing?
And it can feel even worse because you know and love Jesus — you really do — but your faith doesn’t seem to be “working.”
I know what it’s like to try to fix myself.
And maybe you do too.
For years, I was in therapy, on medication, doing individual and group counseling, and trying every self-help tip, tool, or technique I could find — anything to try to get out of my “funk.”
Maybe you’ve been on that journey too.
Trying so hard to feel better.
To feel happy.
To feel less anxious.
And fearing that maybe you never will.
Constantly searching for the “key” — something that might finally unlock the door to feeling better:
— unending therapy
— constant self-help
— extra effort
— more prayer
And yet… nothing seems to actually work.
You start to wonder,
Will it ever change?
Will I ever change?
Maybe it will never change…
You feel hopeless.
You feel tired.
You feel like you’re somehow failing as a Christian.
And you wonder if anything will ever really work — because so far, nothing has.
Then you come across a quote like that and you’re like, “Right… what?”
A mix of disbelief — and a little hope — about this idea of a small “nudge,” whatever that might be.
What is it?
Where do I find it?
How could that even be possible?
For me, that nudge eventually came — but only after years and years of therapy, analysis, and effort before I finally began to feel better.
But if I knew then what I know now, it wouldn’t have taken me nearly as long.
I also know what it’s like to long for what you don’t seem to have —
and maybe you do too.
The desire to feel happy again.
To feel joy again.
To have that peace that “passes understanding.”
That sounds good… I want that.
You too?
It sounds beautiful… and often out of reach.
You just want to feel good again — to stop missing your life because you feel ‘off.’
I just want to give you a little hope.
Not from ego or anything like that…
just from someone who’s been there,
struggled for years,
and finally found something true about the way we’re made on the inside.
I wish I had known this long ago.
It would have saved me so much time, money, and life.
I wouldn’t have had to suffer so much or for so long.
But my journey — all of it — shaped me
and led me to what I now understand about true mental health.
I’m not making promises,
but if you’re open and willing,
I’d love — and be honored —
to share with you what I’ve found.
It really can make a difference.
This isn’t your typical therapy.
It’s something gentler, deeper — and honestly, far more hopeful.
It’s not about doing more or trying harder.
It’s about seeing — waking up to your God-designed innate mental health and how it actually works.
The truth is, most of us were simply never taught this.
I didn’t know.
And chances are, no one ever explained it to you either.
It’s a spiritual answer that brings God and soul back into psychology.
Through this approach, you begin to see that…
nothing is wrong with you,
you’re not broken, and
nothing needs to be fixed.
(I know — that’s not what you usually hear in counseling, but it’s the truth.)
My hope?
That through little nudges — meaningful conversations, learning together, and fresh insight — you can begin to get back into the flow of life again.
To get unstuck from the depression, anxiety, or whatever it is
that’s been keeping you from rowing your boat
(living your life)
gently down the stream…
merrily, gratefully, and lightly.
A Gentle Invitation
