It’s Okay to Not Feel Okay — and It’s Okay to Be More Than Okay

More Than Okay Series — Part 10

Life has seasons — and so do our days.

Some days we feel strong and hopeful.
Other days we feel heavier.

Some days we wake up full of energy and clarity.
Other days we feel tired, discouraged, or unsure.

This is part of being human.

Feelings change.
Circumstances change.
Some days we might even feel more than okay, and sometimes we don’t.

But deeper than our changing feelings is something steady — life with God and the truth of who we are in him, where hope, healing, and the possibility of a life that is more than okay begin to unfold.

Like a sunflower turning toward the light, something in us is always being drawn toward that deeper life.

One of the phrases I’ve grown to appreciate is this:

It’s okay to not feel okay — and it’s okay to be more than okay.

At first glance, it may sound simple.

But it holds something important.

It reminds us that the spiritual journey includes both compassion for struggle and hope for flourishing.

Some days we feel discouraged, overwhelmed, anxious, or tired.

Those days are part of being human.

And God is not surprised by them.

Scripture is full of people who did not feel okay.

The Psalms are full of honest cries of the heart.

Elijah once felt so exhausted and discouraged that he asked God to take his life.

Even Jesus wept.

Faith does not remove our humanity. It meets us within it.

So yes — it’s okay to not feel okay.

But that is not the end of the story.

Because there is also something deeper.

God has placed something within you.

A deeper life.

A life shaped by his Spirit.

Peace.

Joy.

Love.

Not as something you must manufacture, but as something woven into who you are as a child of God.

Jesus said that the kingdom of God is within.

Which means the life of God is not only something we reach for — it is something already alive within us.

And that deeper life remains even on the days when our feelings say otherwise.

Your feelings may rise and fall.

But your identity in God remains steady.

Your feelings may tell you that things are not okay.

But deeper than those feelings is the truth that you are held by a God who is good.

Being more than okay is deeper than any feeling of not feeling okay.

Feelings come and go.

They move through us like weather.

But what God has placed within you is deeper than passing emotions.

Because of that, your life is always moving toward something greater.

Even in the middle of ordinary days.

Even in the middle of struggle.

Even in seasons where you feel uncertain or discouraged.

Life with God is not simply about surviving.

It is about discovering a deeper life.

A life where peace grows.

Where hope begins to rise again.

Where healing slowly unfolds.

Where we begin to see that maybe — just maybe — life can be more than okay.

And sometimes that realization comes quietly.

In a moment of stillness.

In a deep breath.

In a surprising sense of gratitude.

Or in the simple recognition that even when we don't feel okay, something deeper in us is still steady.

Still alive.

Still held.

And that deeper life continues to grow.
